Bears

"We've Got Bears" and that is for sure. You don't have to travel far to find a bear in British Columbia. Actually you don't even have to leave the city to find a bear. There are a surprising number of bears in and around the urban areas of the province.

In B.C. we have both black bears and grizzly bears. Something most people don't know is that a "black bear" is not always black. The black bear has many color phases including: cinnamon, blue, brown, black and the very special white bear called the "Kermode" or "Spirit" bear. These bears were first discovered around Terrace, B.C and are most plentiful in the Great Bear Rain Forest. All the color phases of the black bear are found in B.C. however, B.C. is the only place on the planet where the Spirit bear can be found.

In writing this song we wanted to celebrate the fact that we are one of the provinces in Canada with the largest numbers of bears. We also wanted to offer a little education about bears and to give some advice on what you should and should not do if you encounter a bear.

Half of the grizzlies in Canada

Live in this province too

So if you're really lucky, you might see a few.
