Song of the North
Laurie was raised in Terrace and Gord married in to a family with deep roots along Highway 16. We know the north and believe that this place must be seen to be appreciated. Words are often not enough to do justice to the north. Knowing this we decided to write a song that would not so much describe, as create a feeling that would encourage people to spend some time in the north. "Song of the North" speaks of the magic that awaits those who are ready for pure adventure, fresh air and friendly people. The north will refresh you; the north will change you. So go ahead; there's no need to rush, it's all there waiting for you.
Song of the North
Written by: Laurie Thain and Gord Maxwell
Oh what a journey
North to Prince George
To the Yellowhead Highway 16
Then east to the Rockies
Or west to the coast
A masterpiece in blue and green
Totems standing on First Nations land,
Ancient legends carved out by hand.
CHORUS:
And I know,
The farther and the deeper you go,
You’ll hear a melody that you can't ignore
And for evermore
You’ll be singing the Song of the North
Follow route 97 and before too long,
You’ll discover the mighty Peace
The land opens up
and the mountains give way
To the golden fields of wheat
This is the land where dinosaurs roamed,
It's still the place where the bison call home.

CHORUS:

BRIDGE: Maybe one mystical, wintry night
When the stars line up
When everything’s right
You’ll find yourself under
The spell and the wonder
Of the magical northern lights
And I know,
The farther and the deeper you go,
You’ll hear a melody that you can't ignore
And for evermore . . .
a song like you've never heard before.
It's the beautiful song of the north.
Oh, singing the song of the north.
